#Hashtag Hours on Twitter – Why Bother?

As social media becomes a mainstream activity in the majority of people’s lives these days, more and more individuals are looking to converse and do business online. Over the past couple of years the trend of #Hashtag Hours on Twitter has grown exponentially across the UK with followers tagging around a hashtag at certain hours of the week.

In fact it is believed that Twitter Hours are one of the most active social networking events on the web, happening daily, weekly or monthly.

The audience varies from groups of friends and interest groups to businesses promoting their services. However, there are a few things to be mindful of before you join in the social media revolution:

Maintain Etiquette

Ensure that you are always civil and polite and also retweet others’ tweets. The most important thing to remember is that they should not be used to sell online. Instead look to offer advice during these hours.

Use the #hashtag

Each time you tweet ensure that you add the #hashtag for the hour you are participating in i.e. Tweet us for useful tips on how to use hashtag hours #SuttonColdfieldHour.

Maintain Visibility

The key is in the name. It is a hashtag hour, therefore ensure that you are active for the duration of the hour. It is suggested that you tweet or retweet every 5-6 minutes this will enable you to be visible without being too dominating.

Good luck with your #hashtag involvement and don’t forget you can link useful pages of your website to the tweets. If you need any more information do not hesitate to contact us on 0121 728 8168 or email hello@darrenlangley.com to find out how we can help.
