Sky Showbiz 2004 Case Study
In 2004 the Sky Showbiz website was created as a spin off from the Sky News Showbiz section with its own brand, business objectives and target audience appeal.
My role in the launch of Sky Showbiz was to develop the brand from scratch and design the site. In addition I managed the front-end developer to create Web Accessibility Guidelines Level 2 XHTML/CSS. I also worked with the client, editorial, ad sales and back-end teams to deliver a site that has a highly target-able and loyal audience of regular users.
As the lead designer, one of my responsibilities on the project was to develop a stand-alone brand as Sky Showbiz is not an offline or on-air property. The aim of the brand was to appeal to a largely female demographic, which created a challenge in Sky’s ordinarily male biased audience.
Working closely with a highly talented illustrator, I also produced the animation and design for the Sky Showbiz News Alert which utilised technology provided by Skinkers to deliver showbiz news alerts directly to user’s desktops.
The site has become one of Sky’s most valuable female oriented sub-brands and met its objectives, creating a modest but loyal user-base of around 1 million unique-users a month who regularly view over thirty pages per visit.
