Nicol Thomas Architects – Case Study
Building upon the foundations of a modern brand
The origins of Nicol Thomas can be traced back to 1856 when J. Coulson Nicol set up his practice in Birmingham City Centre. Since then the established architectural business has been responsible for commissioning numerous prestigious City Centre developments.
Based out of the offices in Fort Dunlop, once the main tyre factory of Dunlop Rubber, the multi-disciplinary practice delivers professional consultancy services including Architecture and Master Planning, Quantity Surveying and Project Management, Building Surveying, providing Code Assessors and CDM Co-ordinators across a broad range of sectors. Nicol Thomas Ltd is also proud to be a key corporate supporter of ARCO (Associated Retirement Community Operators).
By the very nature of the business, the tendency for architectural companies is to be very visual and creative in their approach at the expense of usability conventions, often resulting in websites being hard to use for visitors. Nicol Thomas Ltd sought a website design that was going to be visually appealing to demonstrate their design skills foremost but keeping the ease of usability for the end user in mind.
Unhappy with their current design agency they had hired to develop a new website, Darren Langley Web Design was approached to submit a proposal for the project. Taking time out to understand the key aims and functionality the projected we were able to demonstrate that a website could be built to meet their requirements. The end result was a modern, inspiring visual website that was easy-to-use enabling Nichol Thomas Ltd to showcase their work effectively and practically.
Since the site was launched in September 2013, traffic to the site has grown by 80%.
