Having your business information available on the internet is vital.

82% of smartphone users search for a local business online so it is important that anyone who wants to find out information about your business can do so.

Google My Business is a powerful tool that allows you to be in control of how your business appears on Google listings.

It is also significant for local SEO.

So, what are the basics that you need to do to setup a successful Google My Business page?

#1 Setup your profile info

When it comes to your Google My Business profile, you need to ensure that all the information is correct and this consistent.

This information includes the basics that you want to get out there for example:

  • Business name
  • Location and address
  • Opening hours
  • Contact details
  • Website

 

You need to verify your physical address for it to appear on Google My Business and this can be done in a variety of ways including mail, phone or email for selected businesses. Remember to add in opening hours for things like bank holidays or Sundays if they are different and there is also a section for adding in additional information such as free Wi-Fi, disabled access etc…

#2 Add photos

Google My Business allows you to upload photos of your business and these have a positive effect on how people will view your business listing. It is recommended that you upload at least 3 photos of business including the logo, internal and external shots.

In fact, you can also use a Google photographer to create a virtual tour of your business too. Even if you don’t go this far, some high quality photos of your premises will add credibility and a professional edge to you Google My Business listing.

#3 Encourage reviews

Reviews are at the heart of your online reputation.

Many people search for a business before visiting it in person or buying a product online. Reviews are what can swing the balance in your favour between someone choosing your business or going elsewhere. Encourage your customers to leave a review after using your business and you can even add on widget onto your website to display your reviews which is great for your brand and building trust with your audience.

#4 Use Google Posts

This is a relatively new feature but one that can be incredibly powerful for your Google My Business listing.

Google Posts allows you to share updates about your business. For example, you can post about special offers, showcase your top products or even promote events. These will show up on your My Business listing as well as on map results.
